Mihimihi Revisited

Throughout the course of this Studio paper, I have gained more knowledge about my life. This has been shown in my design processes. By this logic, it seems necessary for me to update my Mihimihi accordingly.

Throughout my childhood, my father always played music that he loved. These were usually on car journeys and boat trips. Times when my family was closest. I started listening to his music when I got my first iPod because I had none of my own. When I personalised my iTunes library I started to notice that most of the music I had taken from him, was still on my iPod. This is the music I had grown up loving, and had grown to love.

Some of these artists and bands are shown in my boatshed as the record covers on the walls. Artists like Queen, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd were amongst my highest ranked, both loved by me and my dad.

I starting learning musical instruments at the age of nine, starting with the drums. I don't know where I would be now if I hadn't started playing. Everyday I am tapping a beat whether it be with my fingers on a desk or my hands on a pillow when I'm listening to my favorite tunes. I also Played the trumpet for 2 years.

The idea of the speaker for my boatshed came from looking and thinking about the dimensions of a speaker and putting them in to the context of a room the size of the boatsheds. I came to the conclusion that having a boatshed to myself would be very boring, so I began thinking up a way to get friends involved. The circle of a speaker soon became a built in seat and table into the floor of my boatshed. To aid with the aesthetics of the space I also gave it some function, with a full blutooth speaker system, eliminating the use of any cords to keep the area neat and tidy. The fridge at the back of the boatshed is symbolistic of an amplifier. It keeps the inhabitants well rejuvenated and hydrated so that everyone can have a good time. Much like a speaker cant run at optimum level without an amplifier

This paper opened me up to the possibilities of Spatial Design and made me think a bit more of whether it would be a good decision to pursue it more in my second year. the interactions between my thoughts and ideas and a real space were unlike anything I have done in design.

Speaker

Having decided on reverting to my original idea of conveying my mihimihi through a speaker design for my boatshed, i have come up with a few ideas. Each contains a different selection of band which i am familiar with because my dad would always listen to them. they are a very big part of my life because I still enjoy listening to these bands
Pink Floyd

Led Zeppelin
